Achieving Compliance and Growth in Europe with EuroDev's boutique HR Solutions.

Navigating the complexities of international operations can be daunting for companies, especially when expanding into new regions with distinct regulatory landscapes. Like many international operating companies, our client Integrated Community Development Services (ICDS), a US-based NGO, faced several challenges in managing their European HR operations and sought a reliable partner to help them overcome these obstacles. In this case study we will dive into the specific challenges.

This case study explores the collaboration between ICDS and EuroDev, highlighting how tailored HR solutions, local expertise, and strategic support enabled it to enhance their European activities.

About the Partner

ICDS is a US-based NGO headquartered in Colorado, focused on alleviating poverty through holistic care that combines physical, social, economic, and spiritual support.

Problem Identification and Objectives

Despite the company's global successes, it encountered challenges in managing its European workforce. Their previous partner failed to deliver customized benefits and compensation plans, which made it difficult to maintain high levels of employee satisfaction, retention, and attraction. The needed customized benefits were mainly related to pension plans and private health care plans. Next to the personalized benefit plans, the objective was to assist ICDS with turning independent contractors into employees.

Additionally, the ICDS faced difficulties in managing the complexities of European labor laws and regulations, specifically in the Netherlands and the UK.  This created a pressing need for a partner who had extensive knowledge of employment in Europe and also provided tailored support for them. EuroDev’s assigned HR support team was able to act as an extension to their internal HR team so they could focus on their core business.

For ICDS, a regional-focused HR partner was key in expanding their European workforce, as they noticed it was key to improving efficiency, compliance, and employee satisfaction. Given the complexities of operating across multiple European countries, ICDS faced two approaches;

  • Establish in-house HR systems, hire local HR administrators to manage operations, and attempt to navigate European labor laws independently.
  • They could partner with a specialized European HR Outsourcing provider with extensive experience in European employment law.

From Independent contractors to Employees

With EuroDevs's boutique HR solutions, ICDS had access to access to a dedicated European HR consultant, a financial consultant, and an account manager. This team ensured seamless management of HR functions, including compliance with local laws and tailored employees.  To ensure that ICDS continued to expand its international operations, EuroDev further provided recruitment advice. With EuroDev's recruiter, ICDS was able to expand its European team to a team of six executives. These included;

  • Global product manager
  • Director of Product Managment
  • People and culture director
  • Senior global product manager
  • Senior director - marketing & market development
Our HR consultants advised our clients on how to turn some of their contractors into actual employees. This includes onboarding the new employees and designing their benefits and insurance packages. Further, the team was responsible for an annual HR audit that focused on revising the HR strategy, compliance, employee benefits, and processes. This helped identify any compliance gaps in either the UK or Netherlands, improving the HR processes, ensuring efficiency, and cost saving, and ultimately optimizing their operations in Europe.

Key Milestones

Using EuroDev’s customized HR solutions, ICDS streamlined its European HR operations helped them provide competitive compensation structures, that supported their expansion from two employees to six across the UK and the Netherlands.
ICDS ensured full compliance with European labor laws by outsourcing tasks such as payroll, taxes, pension contributions, and statutory reporting to their European HR team. This enhanced their governance and provided peace of mind.
This partnership also provided ICDS with a scalable HR model that was tailored for future growth, seamlessly integrated with their global operations, and supported their HR transformation, creating a robust, employee-centric HR function in Europe.
